We have spent some time looking at the idea of genre - what it is, how we might define it, what elements constitute a product 'belonging to' a genre. this session we are going to explore some of the wider contextual ideas as to how genre is used by media institutions to generate profit.
The key theoretical model here is the cycle of profit and pleasure and we are going to employ this in exploring Hollywood and film products.
