Practice Task for W/C 14th October

In your exercise book answer the following questions on this text.  To be completed in your study session and for home study by Friday 18th October

Wayne Rooney 2006 world cup Nike advert

Drenched in blood-red paint and screaming a war-cry, this image of Wayne Rooney was condemned as 'offensive', 'exploitative' and 'tacky' by MPs and church groups when it was displayed on hoardings across England in the summer of 2006.

‘The Christ-like pose of the striker in a new Nike campaign yesterday provoked fierce condemnation.’

Its other interpretation as a battle cry from the dark ages or throwback to the Crusades was condemned as equally unfortunate as the poster's launch coincided with the first outbreak of serious violence involving England's army of fans in Germany.

Coming to a lesson near you...

Dear all

This week, following on from the Fashion Design Branding work, it's advertising.  Time for us to explore key aspects in the development of what is a trillion dollar industry.  In 2012 it was announced that Apple, in it's 2011 advertising spend, became the latest of 36 companies who spend over a Billion dollars a year on the global advertising of their brand [some of these currently to do so include Microsoft, Google, Sony, Coca-cola etc]

We will spend some time this week looking at how companies target their audiences, work which will be essential in developing your own coursework portfolios and in the terminal MEST1 examination next May.

You might also want to check out the new Gallery tab which has a link to the movie put together to showcase some of your work for the Design Brief.  We will be uploading videos and print work there over the coming months so you can see what other students are developing for their portfolios.

By the way - which company do you think spends the most each year on its advertising and what is the figure [helpful hint: Disney is 10th with a spend of just over $2 Billion]?

Fashion Design Brief presentations and grading

Dear all

Mr Wallbanks and myself are loving the work we've seen so far.  Some incredible work - possibly the best ever.  The presentations today have been great and we know that there is some superb work still to be seen by everyone.

There is such a diversity of ideas and approaches to the brief and some astonishing images have been constructed.

Well done!  We both can't wait to show you the rest of the work and to hear the presentations.

You are amazing!

Fashion Design Brief Presentations

Dear all

This week is the completion and then presentation of your fashion bran design projects.  You must have uploaded your final 3 images by Tuesday evening [these need to be converted to jpeg files if you've been using Photoshop - file >save as>jpeg from the drop down box].

Remember to have your ideas ready for the presentations this Wednesday and Friday [group Bs] and Wednesday and Thursday group Cs.  You need to consider audience, the brand image [its USP] and how you have tried to create this appeal/message/branding.

If you've completed this, the next task for the coursework has been uploaded to the coursework support page - ideas for researching production companies.

Looking forward to seeing the work you've all been doing - I've already seen some stunning work that bodes well for the future work.
