LESSON 62: PRACTISE SESSIONS

Looks like we still some issues with writing effectively on set tasks so these practise tasks seem to be a good idea for all of you.
This one needs to be completed in the session where you are NOT presenting your coursework ideas to us. all of the set tasks [this one and the Disarming Britain task] need to be submitted on Friday for assessment and feedback after the mid-term break.
As this task is based on one of the film products we have explored I am expecting some detailed responses as you know the pleasures offered by the film and ought to be capable of applying some of this foreknowledge [what we might call your wider contexts] to the tasks.

SECTION A: 45 minutes
Examine the media product – film poster Submarine.
Using the model [below to aid you] looked at in class respond to the questions:

MODEL:
       ·         WHAT TYPE OF PRODUCT IS IT?

·         WHO IS THIS AIMED AT?

·         WHAT WOULD THEIR EXPECTATIONS BE OF SUCH A PRODUCT?

·         HOW DOES THIS PRODUCT TRY TO MEET THESE?

·         HOW SUCCESSFUL IS IT IN DOING SO?

Answer in your exercise book. You are expected to provide around 200-300 words per question taking around 15 minutes per question.

[1] In what ways does the product convey the narrative of the film? [Remember that narrative in media means how the story is told – humour; pathos, ideas etc]

[2] What techniques is this poster using to attract an audience? [Consider font and graphics as well as the image. What about the title? HINT: think of the work we did on Searching for Sugarman in Lesson 55]
